How do I Bulk Update my Inventory Items?

Step-by-Step guide on updating your inventory items in bulk

Editing items individually is useful when you need to fine-tune details like cost, category, or brand for a single product. But when you need to update many items at once (for example, after a price change or a new shipment), the bulk update tool is faster.

The bulk update process has three parts:

  1. Export a bulk update CSV file from your inventory.
  2. Edit the file in a spreadsheet program (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.).
  3. Import the edited file back into the system to apply the changes.

Step 1: Export the bulk update CSV

  1. Go to the Export button in your inventory.
  2. You will see two options: Full Inventory Export and the bulk update export. Choose the bulk update export.
  3. Click Export to CSV or Excel and download the file.

Understanding the CSV columns

Column Editable? Purpose
Item ID No Uniquely identifies the item. Used to match the row to the correct item in the system. Do not change.
Variant ID No Uniquely identifies the item's variant. Do not change.
SKU Reference only Helps you locate the correct item while editing. Not used for matching.
UPC Reference only Helps you locate the correct item while editing. Not used for matching.
Description Reference only Helps you locate the correct item while editing.
Category Yes Updates the item's category.
Subcategory Yes Updates the item's subcategory.
Price Yes Updates the item's price.
Quantity Yes Updates the item's quantity on hand.

Note: Item ID and Variant ID are used to match each row to the correct item in the system. Only items assigned to you as a vendor can be updated. If a row refers to an item that is not yours, the system will ignore it and will not apply the update.

Step 2: Edit the CSV file

  1. Open the downloaded CSV in your spreadsheet program of choice (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.).
  2. Use the SKU, UPC, or Description columns to locate the item(s) you want to update.
  3. Edit the Category, Subcategory, Price, and/or Quantity fields for each item you want to change.
  4. Repeat for as many items as needed. You can edit one row or every row in the file.
  5. Save the file, keeping it in CSV format.
