Completing a Sale: Receipts, Printing, and Email

When a payment covers the balance, the sale completes and you'll see:

Press New sale and the register is ready for the next customer. The cart has already cleared behind the window.

What happens automatically

The receipt is emailed — but only if the customer attached to the sale has an email address on file. No customer, or no email, and nothing is sent. This isn't an error and you won't be told.

The receipt prints — if QZ Tray is running and a receipt printer is set up on that workstation. Otherwise nothing prints automatically.

The drawer opens — if the sale included any cash, including a card-and-cash split.

The Print receipt button

Press it to print again. If a receipt printer is configured, it prints silently. If not, the receipt opens in a new browser tab so you can use the normal print dialog.

It does not re-send the email.

The barcode on the receipt

Every receipt carries a Code 128 barcode of the transaction number at the bottom, with the number printed underneath it.

Scan it instead of typing the number when you're looking up a sale or processing a return. The number is printed as well, so it's still readable if the barcode is smudged or the paper is low on contrast.

Change due

The Change due figure only appears when the sale was finished with cash. A sale finished on a card or check shows no change, even if cash earlier in the sale produced some — that change was handed over at the time.

If nothing prints

  • Is QZ Tray running? Look for it in the system tray.
  • Is a receipt printer assigned on this workstation? A label printer isn't enough.
