Why did my bank verification fail or say maximum attempts exceeded?

What causes failed micro-deposit verification and how support unlocks your account.

After three wrong micro-deposit entries, SyncroPay/SyncroACH locks verification for that bank link; contact Syncrostore support so they can unlock it and verify you with a one-time 4-digit code, instead of re-linking over and over.

Who this is for

  • Vendors setting up SyncroPay/SyncroACH direct deposit whose bank account shows "Verification failed," "Errored," "micro deposit values are incorrect," or "maximum number of verification attempts exceeded."

Why this happens

Almost every failed verification comes from one of these:

  • Entering the negative amounts. Your bank statement may show the two small deposits and then matching withdrawals ("clawbacks"). Enter only the positive deposit amounts.
  • Using an old pair of deposits. Each time you re-link an account, the earlier deposits are cancelled and two new ones are sent. Amounts from an earlier attempt will be rejected.
  • Typing amounts from the wrong account. Each linked account gets its own deposits.
  • After three incorrect entries, verification locks for that bank account.

You manage this from your avatar > Settings > Payments & Banking, on the SyncroPay direct deposit card.

Steps

  1. Stop re-linking. Re-linking or Send New Deposits sends more deposits and cancels the previous ones. Each bank account can only be sent deposits three times; after that it shows Errored and only support can fix it.
  2. Check your bank statement for the most recent two deposits to the account you linked. Write down the positive amounts.
  3. If you have attempts left, open Settings > Payments & Banking. Under Verify your bank account (or Review bank accounts / Verify now in the Action needed banner), enter the amounts in First deposit ($) and Second deposit ($) and click Verify.
  4. If you are locked out ("maximum attempts exceeded" or "Errored"), open a support ticket. Include your store name, the email you log in with, and a screenshot of the error. Do not send your full account or routing number.
  5. Support will ask our payment partner to unlock the account and send an instant verification deposit. When it arrives, look at the description of the $0.01 deposit on your statement: it contains a 4-digit code. You can enter it yourself: click Received a code instead of two deposits?, type it in Verification code and click Verify, or send it to support.
  6. After it shows Verified, check that it is chosen under Payout account and click Save Payout Account if you changed it.

Troubleshooting

  • Status says "Pending," not locked: You can still enter amounts. Wait for the latest deposits and try once more, carefully.
  • The verification was cancelled before the deposits arrived: That means the account was re-linked. Wait for the newest pair, or contact support if you're out of attempts.
  • Missed your store's payout date: That payout is usually a check. You can get direct deposit next time once you're verified. Ask your store.
  • Wrong account linked: click Wrong account? Use a different bank account instead. This cancels the pending verification so you can link another account.
  • Both of your linked accounts show "Verification failed": Contact support; they can remove both on the back end so you can link one account cleanly.

If your store still uses Stripe

This article covers SyncroPay/SyncroACH. Stripe is supported until January 1, 2027. If your store still pays through Stripe, bank verification happens on Stripe's site: see the Stripe section of How do I set up direct deposit for my payouts? (vendors), and contact Stripe for Stripe verification problems.
